Miserable Cow Syndrome

According to psychologists, happy “indicates silliness, boringness and lack of creativity”. There’s also an argument that the more miserable you look, the cooler you are (I can quote Victoria Beckham and her Mad Cow Syndrome). This is supported by a recent article that points out that luxury brands use deadpan models to turn up the status level – and more common, affordable brands go for smiles.

Everyone knows that truly creative minds are unhappy – it’s all about suffering for your art. So I suggest that we embrace the recessionary vibe and big up our creative perceptions at the same time by a return to puritanical black. We need more chic and stern looking designers in polo necks (remember when all designers wore black?). Let’s break away from the smiley, happy, uncreative people. Smiling can only damage reputations. Be miserable, darling – immediately! It’s really cool. Misery is the new black.
