If you’re a keen follower of the Design Bridge blog then you’ve probably already seen the brief for our Dog’s Bollocks Student Awards 2018 competition. We’re challenging students to “Win Us Over” by using creativity to convince us of their point of view on a topic or issue that they are passionate about. We’re looking for big, bold, standout ideas that are (of course) beautifully executed.
To promote the competition in universities all over the UK this year, we came up with our own big, bold idea and designed a set of posters that bring to life 6 topical issues that students might want to use as their starting point for entries – Brexit, the gender pay gap, cryptocurrency, gaming, food waste, and using social media as a political tool. Each of our posters visualises one of these topics through the use of provocative found imagery, juxtaposed with carefully crafted copywriting that uses a clever play on words to add further intrigue.
Working with our friends at LNS Print, we screenprinted our posters using black ink on G . F Smith Colorplan stock. The result gives a bright, bold, clean look with a DIY punk aesthetic – we literally did do it ourselves!
Over the next month or so we’re visiting universities up and down the UK, presenting the brief to students and delivering our posters. And whilst we’re there, we’ll be taking a moment to reminisce about our own uni days over a pint in the Student Union whilst discreetly distributing our (very) limited edition beer bottles and beer mats. After all, the best conversations (and ideas) often start in the pub and on the back of a beer mat. If you spy one, send us a pic!
