Football fever has hit – and for some of us more than others it would seem! Take our Ingrid’s husband as an example. The brains behind 8bit Football, he has been recreating key moments from the beautiful game in glorious retro 8bit style, and the current World Cup has provided plenty of fodder for his endeavours…
Earlier this week, Nicolien felt inspired by an article in Dutch magazine Happinez about Brazilian artist Angélica Dass’ project, Humanae. Since 2012, Dass has been taking portraits of over 4,000 people from all around the world, matching each skin tones to a Pantone shade and then using it as the portrait background. In her own words, as reported on Newsweek last year, “Using this scale, I am sure that nobody is ‘black,’ and absolutely nobody is ‘white’… these kinds of concepts that we used in the past are completely nonsense”.
The work has been on display all around the world, has featured in National Geographic, and Angélica has also began to run projects with children where they discuss colour and the beauty of having so many different skins tones.
You can see all of the portraits on the project Tumblr, and you can find out a little bit more by watching Angélica’s TED Talk, The beauty of human skin in every color, below:

To end the week we’re sharing a piece of music to take you off into the weekend, courtesy of Gin Wigmore’s Girl Gang. The beautifully illustrated music video by Ewen Farr features a cast of inspirational women lip synching to the track and we love it. Enjoy!
