Equity
By Amanda Li

Imagine a gender-equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that's diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women's equality. Collectively we can all #EmbraceEquity

We know that design is a powerful tool for change. And to celebrate International Women's Day, we've teamed up with Superunion to host a series of talks across our studios to explore the power of designing tech solutions to create equity for all, and the rise of AI and its biases against women.

Equity

Design plays a crucial role in creating technology that is equitable. At its core, design is about creating solutions that meet the needs of users, and this requires a deep understanding of the diversity of human experience; considering factors such as the diversity of user demographics, cultural norms and values, and historical inequalities and power dynamics.

While equality treats everyone the same, equity acknowledges the existing inequalities and strives to level the playing field, ensuring everyone has the tools to succeed. By solving problems with equity in mind, we can develop solutions that work better for everyone.

At our London studio, we hosted a breakfast discussion panel with Vicky Yang, Digital Art Director, Emma Follett, Group Chief Creative Office, Marta Swannie, Creative Partner, and led by Head of Strategy Anna Hamill, who opened an interactive conversation on the topic of AI's gender biases and its growing influence. As AI continues to become more prevalent, we wanted to explore whether there's serious bias baked into the data...

And in Singapore, over coffee and croissants, Jessica Tan, Digital Creative Director at the studio, and Grace Astari, Creative Lead for Global Innovation at Diageo, led a discussion on how transformational tech trends will continue to shape our equity conversations and anticipate that these shifts will drive an equal playing field for ideas and experiences. They also explored how brands can play a critical role in breaking down gender and unconscious bias barriers
