The Pentawards has been honouring the best in packaging design since 2007, and each year the awards ceremony takes place in a different city around the world. On Saturday we polished our shoes and fixed our hair, and headed off to the Auditorium of the Royal Institute of British Architects (or RIBA for short) in central London to see what this year’s ceremony had in store for us.
And we’re delighted to say that we were awarded with seven Pentawards AND named Agency of the Year. We were just a little bit excited when we heard the amazing news!
We’re completely immersed in the world of Smirnoff and have worked on a variety of projects for the iconic vodka brand, so we were delighted that our redesign of the Smirnoff Ice can was awarded Silver. We love how the design spells out ‘ICE’ when you place three cans side-by-side:
As regular blog readers will know, it’s been an award-winning year for our work with Fortnum & Mason, and we picked up two more this weekend – Silver Pentawards for the decadent, art deco inspired Truffles packaging, and for our collaboration with Timorous Beasties on the Handmade Collection.
But it wasn’t just sweet treats that were awarded with shiny trophies this year, we also picked up two awards for our work on two very different beer projects. The elegantly crafted champagne-style bottle and presentation box for Guinness The 1759 (a new premium table beer for the US market) received a Silver award, whilst our bottle design for the well-loved Finnish beer brand Karhu was awarded Bronze. You can find out more about the Fortnum & Mason Handmade Collection in the Work section.
Claire and Marloes were visiting from the Netherlands, so they were on hand to collect a Bronze Pentaward for our Amsterdam Studio. This award was for our recent work with SENSEO®, which takes elements from the coffee brand’s iconic design past and unlocks its optimistic sense of adventure.
Lastly, but by no means leastly, we also received a Gold for:
As per DB tradition, the celebrations continued on long into the small hours of Sunday morning…
And whilst we’re talking about awards, we were also thrilled to receive three nominations in the Design Week Awards shortlist for Tanqueray NO. Ten, Fortnum & Mason Matchbox Novelties, and Fortnum & Mason Handmade Collection. Roll on the awards ceremony in November…
