Following on from our recent visit to Nanyang Technological University, School of Arts, Design and Media (ADM), and for the second year running, we invited this year’s graduating students to our Singapore Studio to find out more about working at a global brand design agency.
Over the past 5 years we’ve recruited 6 people from ADM, so what could be warmer and more welcoming than an agency tour led by ADM alumni? As part of the tour, the students got to hear several personal stories from the team, and see examples of some of the projects they are most proud of.
We asked Yvonne Eng, a Senior Designer who came to us from ADM 5 years ago, to share her story with our blog readers…
“So I was asked as ADM alumni to speak about my time and Design Bridge, and the design industry in general – what a colourful five years I’ve had!
I squirrelled my way into our Singapore Studio before I even graduated (and had to take time off work to go to my own graduation!). I started on a Graduate placement, so the first two months of my life here were a blur of paper samples, spray mount, and plenty of helping the team prep for presentations.
The next thing I knew I was offered a role as Junior Designer! Suddenly I found myself in the middle of excellent design thinking, lots of wine, more spray mount, and some of the best people I’ve ever met.
Five years later, I’m still blown away by the inspirational storytelling and vivid personalities that makes Design Bridge who we are.”
Very inspiring words, thanks Yvonne!
Our event was a great opportunity for the students to find out more about what we really mean by “branding”, our values, and what we do. Over drinks and an excellent selection of snacks, the students got to chat to the team, which included Emma Follett (our Deputy Chief Creative Officer), who happened to be visiting at the time. Emma, who started her career as a graduate in the London Studio and has been with us ever since, was on hand to share her knowledge and insight from working with all of our Studios.
Some of our senior team also took time to sit with the students one-on-one to review their portfolios and answer questions. Not only was this a great help for the students, it was also the perfect opportunity for us to meet some of the future design and branding stars in Asia, and we hope to welcome some of them back into the Studio again very soon…
A big thanks to Alice, Jo and Yvonne for the words and pictures.
