Seeing as we missed our WWLTTW playlist this week (sorry fans, you can listen back to previous playlists here), we thought we’d start this week’s Friday Favourites with something related to music – record sleeve artwork. We were interested to see what music industry experts had selected as their favourite, most creative record sleeves for Adweek – here’s a selection from the original article:
Similarly, Creative Review shared its pick of the best record sleeves from this month’s releases. We were drawn to these:
Do you have a favourite piece of album artwork? Drop us a line and tell us all about it and maybe we’ll feature it next week…
Fan of the Mark Powell illustrations we shared last week?
Whilst we’re on the subject of exhibitions, we would also recommend checking out No Frills – an exhibition in London and Leeds, showcasing sculpture, sounds, illustration, collage, print and photography from emerging artists from both cities, including DB London’s very own Matt. Here’s a sneak peek at some of the work you’ll find on display:
If you can make it along to the opening parties (17 March in London, 15 April in Leeds) then you’ll also be treated to music and free refreshments. And who doesn’t love a free drink whilst looking at art? Find out more on the exhibition website. (Images by Gareth Thomas, Daniel Holloway and Matt Reid)
This week’s photography inspiration comes from Lisa, who shared this BBC story on the finalists of this year’s Wellcome Image Awards. A little different to our usual photography inspiration, the Wellcome Image Awards are all about recognising the very best in science, medicine and life photography. You can find out more about the Awards from the judges in the video below, and you can see all of the winning photographs on the official website:
Finally this week, a shout out to all of the students who will be spending this weekend putting the finishing touches to their entries for this year’s D&AD New Blood Awards – especially those of you working on our beauty branding brief. If you need any last minute advice then we’ve got you covered – Asa shared his advice with It’s Nice That, and you can also read our interview with Melissa, a previous New Blood winner who helped put our brief together this year. Keep it simple, people, and good luck!
