It’s quite possibly the best day of the year – our annual Summer Away Day! This year the London Studio kicked off the Away Day proceedings with “The Hackney Cup”. Held on the green green grass of Hackney Marshes on a glorious summer’s day, we were split into teams – aptly named after our favourite local pubs – to take part in a traditional sports day with a special DB twist. The challenge was set and our competitive streak kicked in. On your marks, get set, go!
Races included the Cadbury Creme Egg-and-Spoon, The Lipton Skip and The Great (KFC) Chicken Run, all culminating in a multi-sport, multi-skilled (and somewhat confusing) team race to help determine the overall winners.
After totting up the points across all 9 events it was time for Hannah, our MD, to undertake the most important task of the day and announce the winning team… congratulations to The Bowlers, led by team captain Ollie!
Once the sporting events were over, it was time to kick back and relax with an amazing BBQ feast, a visit from the ice cream van, lawn games, bouncy castle and dancing. We even managed to drink the bar dry. Twice. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, we do love our gin at DB!
Fast forward 2 weeks and it was time for the Amsterdam Studio to head off for an afternoon on the beach for their Summer Away Day. Here’s Alex Hobbs to tell you more…
You would be forgiven for thinking that our Amsterdam Studio was indulged in a Summer Party upon the white sandy dunes of an idyllic Ibiza beach. However, windswept Scheveningen, near Den Haag, was a near comparable setting for this year’s Summer Away Day.
Suitably adorned in our boho trinkets and glittery tattoos, we took to the beach to create some Boho Ibiza themed structures using only bamboo sticks and rubber bands. Some more successfully than others.
The standout winner amongst a plethora of boats, beach huts and hippy communes was the ferocious Boheminator, a fish that lives off the shores of Ibiza and feeds solely on Bohemians. Congratulations to Mike (the Birthday Boy) and team for taking home the coveted prize and glory.
Worn out and slighted sandblasted, we were greeted at the door of our beautiful beach bar with a cocktail and settled in to an afternoon of music, fantastic food and good company.
After the excitement of an impromptu water (or in some cases, rosé wine) fight had eased, everyone took to the dance floor as the sun set on our tranquil beach haven.
We’d like to say a very special “thank you” to the organisers of both of our Away Days, plus our fabulous photographers – Charlotte, Serdar and Mr Helps in London, and Richard in Amsterdam.
We can’t wait to see what the New York and Singapore team have up their summery sleeves.
To be continued…
