Although we don’t really need an excuse for treats on work days, last week our Amsterdam Studio was overloaded with sugary deliciousness!
Half way through the week our lovely Alicia decided that she just had to test out some of the top quality Cacao Barry chocolate sent to us by our clients (you can find out more about our work on Cacao Barry here). Inspired by the world-class chefs, chocolatiers and pâtissiers that use the chocolate everyday in their amazing creations, Alicia decided to get experimental and make us some delicious chocolate truffles…
“The process was quite simple – melt together cream, a bit of butter and the chocolate. Let it cool in the fridge overnight, then shape and coat.”
Alicia used three different single-source dark chocolates, each of which tasted very different from one another, adding extra flavourings that she felt would complement each one.
“We ended up with Mexique 66% truffles coated in spicy Cayenne cocoa, rich Tanzanie 75% truffles infused with fresh espresso, and intense Venezuala 72% truffles coated in dark chocolate and topped with sea salt. They tasted delicious, but the best part for me was seeing everyone’s big smiles as we shared them at tea time.”
This lovely chocolate experiment blended in nicely with our weekly Wednesday afternoon tea time tradition- happy faces all round!
And then it became Thursday, a hot summer’s day in the city, which was also Claire’s (Parker, our Executive Creative Director) birthday. Claire is one of our favourite baking queens so we always look forward to her birthday, but this year she used the glorious weather as an excuse to treat us all to ICE CREAM (the only acceptable alternative to her delicious home-baked cakes)!
Our Studio soon turned into a children’s playground when, half way through the day and during the hottest hour, we could hear the famous sing-song bells approaching from the distance! It was smiles all round when the lovely ice cream man from Monte Pelmo started scooping Strawberry, Vanilla, Chocolate and Straciatella – we do love our classic flavours!
After all that sugar it’s time we got back to work. Here’s to another sunny week in Amsterdam!
