At the end of July, our Singapore team was whisked away and marooned (just for the day) on the island of Sentosa. Here’s Alison to tell you a bit more about this year’s annual Singapore Away Day adventure…
Once we arrived on Sentosa island, we were divided into 6 teams, each named after a vital component of survival on a desert island – Fire, Food, Water, Raft, First Aid and, of course, WIFI!
Each team was briefed on the survival-themed challenges we had to complete during the day. These included creating and praising a deity, scavenging food, and getting up close and personal with the natives of the island (mainly peacocks and tourists).
The final challenge involved finding the “Siren of Sentosa” (aka our very own James Diaz Alberdi, complete with pink wig) who resided in the lagoon. Each team nominated a Champion to swim out to ‘her’ and claim their prize – fizzy sweets, of course. The Siren also granted us entry to Paradise (aka the Mambo Beach Club).
The food and drink flowed, and endless hours of beach and pool games, dunking in the water and playing like big kids on inflatables ensued.
After hours of trying to connect to the WIFI (a special thanks to Faz for sorting), our challenges were judged by The Official Judging Committee. The main criteria? What made them laugh the most.
Team WATER won based on merits for “that” classic peacock walk, and also for some bizarre chanting at their deity (video evidence exists – please address your bribes to “Blog Editor”).
Team WIFI came a close second, based on their dedication to seeking out the best Internet connection on the island.
I’d like to give a special shout out to my fellow Social Committee members John, Fenson, James, Michelle K and Michelle C for organising a brilliant day.
