Design Bridge and Partners colabora com Whitney Museum para projetar experiência de arte imersiva inaugural

O Whitney Museum of American Art, item obrigatório na agenda de turistas amantes das artes em Nova York, ganhou recentemente um toque brasileiro. Nos unimos com as operações de Nova York e de Cingapura num projeto de cocriação do novo espaço digital na ala de exibições do museu de arte. A abertura para o público foi com a exposição “Refigured: A Virtual Conversation and Tour”, que teve sua inauguração conduzida em evento totalmente digital por Christiane Paul, curadora de arte digital no Whitney.

Heitor Piffer Siqueira, nosso Diretor Executivo de Criação em São Paulo, diz que as equipes da consultoria usaram o espírito do Whitney como uma metáfora para capturar a essência da estrutura, filosofia e ambiente circundante do edifício, criando um novo plano de existência para o museu. “O espaço virtual incorpora luz, reflexos e pistas materiais do mundo real, usando formas assimétricas e estruturas industriais para alcançar uma presença escultural enquanto abraça a natureza ilimitada do reino digital”, explica Piffer. "Foi um esforço muito colaborativo de nossa equipe de Experience Design, envolvendo os escritórios de Nova York, Brasil e Cingapura, realmente aproveitando as habilidades e talentos que temos em toda a rede global”, complementa o Diretor Executivo de Criação de SP.

Ross Clugston, diretor de criação da Design Bridge and Partners de NY, afirma que a parceria com o Whitney Museum abriu um novo acesso ao mundo da arte, permitindo simultaneamente que os espectadores contemplem as maneiras pelas quais realidades físicas e virtuais se cruzam e divergem; "Esta colaboração define o cenário para inúmeras possibilidades nas quais podemos reimaginar como experimentamos a arte sem as restrições do espaço físico e do ser".

Como parte da experiência imersiva virtual de abertuta da exposição e inauguração do espaço, Christiane Paul conduziu uma conversa com vários artistas da exposição, incluindo Morehshin Allahyari, American Artist, Zach Blas, Auriea Harvey e Rachel Rossin, que puderam discutir seu trabalho enquanto também refletiam sobre a interação entre o físico e realidades virtuais.

"Foi uma experiência enriquecedora participar da criação dessa nova forma de vivenciar a arte, por meio de um ambiente digital imersivo, com o time Whitney Museum. Desde os estágios iniciais de concepção até a materialização dos espaços e interações, foi verdadeiramente fascinante testemunhar o projeto ganhar vida", complementa Tom Werneck, creative lead no Brasil.

About the Exhibition

Refigured brings together five installations by leading artists working in the field of digital art to reflect on the ways technology intersects with and influences our ever-evolving identities, underscoring the dynamic between digital and physical artworks and blurring boundaries between them. Drawing from the Museum’s collection and including digital video and animation, virtual sculpture, and augmented reality, the installations in this exhibition respond to the various forces that form identity and engage with the concept of “refiguring”. Sculptures are presented concurrently in digital and physical space alongside animations that escape the confinement of screens and reach into the gallery. Constructs of identity, self-representation, structures of oppression, and colonialism are explored through a variety of lenses and mediums. Some artists investigate the ways identity is reflected in the structures of artificial intelligence and computer interfaces, while others consider how selfhood transforms in online environments and ancient cultural myths.

The exhibition is on view through July 3rd 2023 in the Museum’s Lobby Gallery, a space that is accessible to the public free of charge and often highlights the latest emerging talent and innovation in American Art.
