The Great Dutch Bake Off

Here at DB we love a good bake off. Recently the Amsterdam office split into teams to finally establish who really knew their choux from their shortcrust.

Love was the theme, and teams were tasked with creating something amorous, or simply something they just really loved! Once the oven gloves were on, the bakers attempted to prove their baking prowess and showcase their depth of skill and talent. The complexities of this theme called for a professional standard in taste and appearance. We wanted to see show-stopping bakes. Were they up to it?

Claire and Alex

Judges “Clairy Berry” and “Alex Hollywood” were at the ready to shine a spotlight on the good, the bad and the soggy bottomed. Points were awarded for appearance, taste and accompanying poem, and it was smiles and excitement all round during the cake-cutting and tasting session.

The Great Dutch Bake Off: the tasting

The poems were an extra addition to this year’s bake off challenge. All poems were exceptionally imaginative, but it was Richard’s monologue which really surprised us all on the day!

Poem

After much deliberation, the winning creation was a delicious salmon fish cake by Nicolette & Mariette, complete with the most striking poem.

The Winner

Other top bakes included:

muffins

Bacon and cheese.

fortune cookies

Fortune cookies with a poem inside

pantone cake

A real baked cheesecake from the Production team.

love cake

Fabulous use of sprinkles!

bed cake

In bed with a surprise inside! This chocolate cake received extra points for appearance.

The appearance, taste and team effort of all of the bakes was remarkably proficient, and we’re all looking forward to next year’s edition of the Great Dutch Bake Off.
