One of the great things about working at Design Bridge is our unique Studio culture and all the extra-curricular things we get up to. Here’s Mafalda, a Presentations Executive, to tell you about a little initiative she has set up in our Singapore Studio to promote health and wellness in the workplace…
I’ve always loved sports and exercise, but when I moved to Singapore from Portugal I had to give up my gymnastics practice. Hence I decided that I wanted to get into yoga as I’d always enjoyed it. Handily, the DB Singapore Studio is located in a very yogi-friendly neighbourhood and I found out quite a few of my colleagues would go to yoga classes during lunch or at the end of the day – it’s a perfect break from a busy schedule, and a chance to relax and re-energise after a creative day in the Studio!
In addition, going to several classes a week can be quite expensive (and I’m trying to save money to make the most of all the amazing travel opportunities I have available to me now that I am based in Singapore), so I thought, why not gather a few of us and start a Yoga Club at DB?
I talked to a few people to see if others would be keen. After getting recommendation for a teacher and a successful trial class, we soon held weekly classes in one of our meeting rooms.
We’ve noticed that it’s much more cost effective for us to bring a teacher into the Studio rather than going elsewhere, and more people can also get involved because the room we use as our ‘yoga studio’ is literally a few steps away from our desks. It incentivises people to join the yoga classes and because we’re practicing with our friends, it’s much more fun too!
Alice runs the club with me, and DB now sponsors it by contributing 50% towards the price of classes (it only costs S$10 per person per class, the equivalent of £5.70 in the UK), helping us bring a weekly well-deserved break to the team.
